Here’s how Chelsea’s side could look next season based on current players and possible signing.
Jose Mourinho will be very confident with the side he’s assembled following confirmation of an agreement between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid over Diego Costa.
The Spanish international will lead the Blues’ attack next season and Chelsea fans will be full of expectation with the side Mourinho could name to start the new campaign.
We’ve had a go at predicting the sort of line-up the Portuguese coach may opt for.
GK – Thibaut Courtois
Arguably the best goalkeeper in the world and he’s made it clear; if he starts the season with Chelsea, he wants to be number one.
RB – Cesar Azpilicueta
Azpilicueta was superb last season for the Blues at left-back, but he should revert to his more natural role on the right.
CB – Gary Cahill
Cahill will be frustrated with the way he played at the World Cup, but he should get the chance to continue his impressive relationship with John Terry.
CB – John Terry
Terry is the leader in the back four and of the whole side. He injects experience into the team and seems to be hungrier than ever.
LB – Filipe Luis
Luis is the subject of Chelsea interest, with Atletico Madrid holding out for the full value of his buy-out clause. He’ll be a great option at left-back if he signs.
RM – Willian
The Brazilian has struggled to get game time at the World Cup, but he should start for the Blues next season after a solid first year in English football.
DM – Nemanja Matic
Matic will be the player who patrols the area in front of the back four. He’s a huge, intimidating figure and should start.
CM – William Carvalho
Carvalho is a target for the club and Manchester United. United are reportedly ready to move on a deal, which could prompt Chelsea to make a move. He’s a defensively minded player, but Mourinho showed last season that he’s happy to play more than one holding player at times.
CM – Cesc Fabregas
Fabregas opted for Chelsea and Mourinho is likely to use him to control games, setting the pace of the attacking play.
LM – Eden Hazard
Hazard hasn’t had a great World Cup with Belgium but he’s made the right choices at the right times and will start unless he gets injured.
ST – Diego Costa
Costa will give Chelsea a bullish, gritty element up front, which the side missed last season. He’s a great capture if the club can close the deal.
