Here is Chelsea’s possible side for next season based on current players and potential signings.
With Chelsea now back in pre-season training, Jose Mourinho will be quietly confident looking ahead to the start of the Premier League next month.
The Blues have assembled an impressive squad, which is capable of challenging on all fronts next season, with strength in every position, which makes the Blues a good bet for the Premier League title.
Here’s how Chelsea could shape up for the trip to Burnley.
GK – Thibaut Courtois
The young Belgian is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world and could be thrown in at the deep end of a physical Premier League.
RB – Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spaniard was great at left-back last season, but could move back into a more favoured central spot.
CB – Mehdi Benatia
Manchester City could miss out on Benatia if they miss the deadline handed to them by Roma, it would be a typical Mourinho move to swoop in for the centre-back.
CB – John Terry
Terry was one of the first back for pre-season training doing individual sessions and he should slot into the heart of the defence.
LB – Filipe Luis
A deal has now reportedly been agreed for the Brazilian and he should start on the left hand side if an agreement is made official.
RM – Willian
Willian hasn’t had as much game time at the World Cup as he may have hoped, but that plays into Chelsea’s hands.
DM – Nemanja Matic
Matic is a real unit in front of the back four. He’ll be looking for dominant performances in front of the defence.
CM – Tiago
A Tiago return makes sense for Chelsea considering the loss of experience through Frank Lampard. The Portuguese star can control the middle of the team.
AM – Cesc Fabregas
Mourinho did superbly to snap up Fabregas ahead of any other side. It would be a surprise if he’s not a start considering his Premier League experience.
LM – Eden Hazard
The Belgian starts because he’s a world class player and someone who can make the difference at any time for the Blues.
ST – Diego Costa
Costa leads the attack, with a real presence. He should cope with the physical side of the Premier League well.
