Here’s Chelsea’s potential side for next season based on current players and possible signings.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will be very happy with the shape his side is taking ahead of an important Premier League and Champions League campaign.
The Blues have added well in the transfer market so far and continue to be linked with players who could further improve the side and compensate for players who are sealing exits.
We’ve attempted to name Chelsea’s starting side for next season.
GK – Thibaut Courtois
Petr Cech has put Mourinho under huge pressure after a fine start to pre-season but the young Belgian should get the nod.
RB – Cesar Azpilicueta
Arguably the most improved player at Chelsea last season. He should relish the chance to play on his natural side of the defence.
CB – Gary Cahill
Kurt Zouma has featured in pre-season but Mourinho is likely to opt for Cahill, who was part of the Premier League’s best defence last season.
CB – John Terry
Terry has looked sharp and fit since he returned for pre-season and will inject that experience into the back four.
LB – Filipe Luis
Chelsea made a big investment in the Brazilian who has already made his debut for the club. He starts.
RM – Willian
Willian should be sharp as he didn’t feature prominently for Brazil at the World Cup.
DM – Nemanja Matic
Matic is that imposing figure any side needs in front of their back four. Expect to see him controlling the area between defence and midfield.
CM – Sami Khedira
Khedira continues to be linked with a move to the Blues and he’d slot right into the middle of the team.
AM – Cesc Fabregas
Fabregas has already linked up with the Blues in pre-season, which suggests he will be fit enough to start the new campaign as Chelsea’s creative midfielder.
LM – Eden Hazard
Hazard was the standout attacking player at the club last season and there’s no way Mourinho will drop him from the left hand side.
ST – Diego Costa
It will be tempting for Mourinho to start Didier Drogba with the Blues legend linked with a return to the club. However, it’s important for Costa to get a feel for the Premier League as quickly as possible.
