Match to be played on Saturday 29th March 2014 at 15:00. Venue: Selhurst Park, London.
Chelsea will be extremely confident heading into the game against Crystal Palace this weekend.
Jose Mourinho’s side are fresh off the 6-0 drubbing they dished out to Arsenal last weekend and they have had a full week to rest ahead of this game and the first leg of the Champions League match against PSG next week.
Here is the side the boss could go with for this weekend.
GK – Petr Cech
One of the most consistent players for the Blues this season. He keeps his place and there’s absolutely no reason to drop him.
RB – Branislav Ivanovic
Ivanovic has looked very comfortable playing at right-back so far this season. He’s settled in well on that side of the defence and is effective at both ends of the pitch.
CB – Gary Cahill
Cahill is one of the first names down on the team sheet at the moment and a player who offers strength and agility through the spine of the team.
CB – John Terry
Terry is the perfect partner for Cahill because he has that extra layer of experience. He’s also been very consistent when Mourinho has needed to rely on him throughout the season.
LB – Cesar Azpilicueta
Normally a right-back, but he’s filled in superbly down the left-hand side. Arsenal struggled to get the better of him in any sense.
RM – Andre Schurrle
The German has taken his recent chances in the starting line-up well. He’ll be confident following his goal against Arsenal and Mourinho will more than likely play on that confidence.
DM – Nemanja Matic
Matic has been a revelation since he arrived at the club from Benfica last winter. He’ll inject aggression into the side and make it difficult for Palace to move the ball easily.
CM – Frank Lampard
With Ramires suspended for this game, it could mean a chance for Lampard to come back into the middle.
AM – Oscar
The Brazilian will slot into his natural role in behind the main striker. He’s one of the players Chelsea will be looking to get on the ball as quickly as possible.
LM – Eden Hazard
The Belgian has been a superb player for Chelsea this season. His position on the left hand side is undoubted at the moment and he’ll give the Palace right-back and right sided centre back all sorts of problems.
ST – Fernando Torres
Torres will step in to lead the attack following the injury to Samuel Eto’o. Every game is massive for him at the moment as he looks to fight his way into Spain’s World Cup squad.
