Here is how we predict Aston Villa will line up against Wigan Athletic later this week:

Aston Villa welcome Wigan Athletic to Villa Park on Tuesday evening for their EFL Cup match, and Steve Bruce will be hoping to build on their recent 4-2 victory against Norwich City.

The Villans started the new Championship campaign in worrying form, drawing with Hull City before losing to Reading and Cardiff City.

Their only victory prior to the weekend came when they defeated Colchester United in the cup, but a resurgent performance against the Canaries suggests Villa are ready to kick-start their campaign.

That is better late than never for those Villa fans who will have been worrying about the prospect of another poor season, and while there is a lot of football still to be played, the performance against fellow promotion hopefuls Norwich spoke of better things to come.

Villa are likely to make a few changes for Tuesday’s clash, with the likes of James Bree, Jed Steer, Christopher Samba and Scott Hogan all coming back into the starting line-up.

Even with a few changes Villa should be too strong for a Wigan side that was relegated from the second tier last time out. Yet Bruce will want to build on the club’s recent momentum ahead of a league clash against Bristol City on Friday.

With all that in mind here is how we expect Villa to line up when they face the Latics:
