Alex Bruce will be looking for another club this summer
Hull City defender Alex Bruce recently confirmed on Twitter that he will be leaving the KCOM Stadium in the coming weeks when his contract expires. And while it may seem the most obvious suggestion going, it would surely make sense for his father Steve to bring him to Aston Villa given recent reports surrounding his budget for the summer.
The Daily Mirror recently suggested that Bruce will have just £1 million to spend on turning his Villans squad into promotion contenders following their largely uninspiring first season in the Championship.
For that reason, the Villa boss will have to be canny with the deals he completes during the coming months, and thus, his son may actually be a decent addition.
The 32-year-old would arguably not be good enough to come in and rival the likes of James Chester and Nathan Baker for a starting spot, but he would arguably be a worthwhile addition given Tommy Elphick’s struggles and Micah Richards’ inability to make any kind of impact this past term.

If they could shift both Elphick and Richards off the wage bill – which is what they are hoping to do, according to the Express and Star – and bring Bruce in as cover, they would surely boost their funds having replaced two fringe players with a player who, having not cost a fee, is arguably more likely to make a contribution, even if he simply bolsters the depth within the squad.
It would probably not be an acquisition that captures the imagination at Villa Park, but having helped Hull secure promotion and reach an FA Cup final in the last four years, he would arguably be an astute addition with his father’s hands seemingly tied when it comes to what he can do in the window.
