Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want to send Josh Onomah on loan to Swansea City in order to sign Alfie Mawson in the summer transfer window.
Josh Onomah may be a hugely talented and promising young footballer, but it seems that the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is not rated too highly by manager Mauricio Pochettino, at least not yet.
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham are considering making another offer for Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson in the summer transfer window, having seen their initial bid turned down and want to include Onomah in the deal.
“Swansea want £30m for England Under-21 international Mawson, but Spurs could try to offer Josh Onomah on loan to the Welsh club as part of a lower bid,” adds the report in The Telegraph.

It seems that Pochettino thinks that Tottenham could do without Onomah next season and there is a case to be made. After all, Spurs have enough midfielders in the squad, and last season all of the 20-year-old’s five Premier League appearances came as a substitute.
Sending Onomah on loan to Swansea in a deal involving 23-year-old centre-back Mawson would work well for Tottenham, but the Spurs midfielder should try his best to remain in Pochettino’s team and impress the manager in pre-season.
There is no guarantee that Onomah would get enough playing time at Swansea next season. Moreover, spending time away from Tottenham and Pochettino’s playing style could make it tough for him to get back into the Argentine’s plans once he returns from his loan spell.
For the 20-year-old midfielder to have a long-term future at Tottenham, it is important that he has a strong pre-season and remains part of the first-team squad for the 2017-18 campaign. That way, he would always remain in Pochettino’s eye and would not be out of sight…and out of mind.
