Some Manchester United fans were hoping for Newcastle to be successful in appointing Unai Emery as their new manager.
Why do United fans care about Newcastle appointing Emery? Well, the answer is rather simple.
Emery is currently in charge of Villarreal, who are in the Red Devils’ Champions League group and they feel that if the Spaniard leaves the Yellow Submarine, they will have an easier task in Europe.
To be fair, we can see where they’re coming from. Emery did get the better of United in the Europa League final last year and if he does leave Villarreal they may struggle to get a manager as talented in as a replacement.
Of course, whether or not Newcastle can tempt the 50-year-old is a different story. He’s apparently their first-choice, but it seems as though this one isn’t going to happen.
Unless something changes dramatically it seems as though Emery will be staying in Spain after he released a statement on social media saying he wants to stay loyal.
However, as we’ve seen before, anything is possible in football, especially when one of the richest clubs in the world are involved.
