Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be out of the World Cup with a knee injury and Jack Wilshere has been wishing him well.
England took on Ecuador yesterday in a very experimental friendly match in Miami, Florida. The two teams drew 2-2 in a competitive fixture, but the game had a few ugly moments. Firstly there was the Raheem Sterling and Antonio Valencia moment – both players sent off after a nasty clash on the right-flank.
Then there was the injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is now a doubt for the World Cup. The fear is the Arsenal midfielder has damaged knee ligaments. Considering he spent much of the previous season on the side-lines with a similar injury it is clearly a big concern for the player.
He was also very impressive yesterday. Direct, fast and incisive – his floated cross led to England’s first goal.
It would be a shame if he did miss out and plenty of players will be sharing his pain at the moment. One in particular will be Arsenal and England team-mate Jack Wilshere.
The midfielder, who himself ended the game limping with cramp in both calves, has struggled with injury throughout his career. And he sent a Tweet to his pal supporting him in his hope of getting good news in his injury diagnosis.
The Ox will undergo a scan today to decide whether he is fit for the World Cup, or whether he will be flying back to London before even setting foot in Brazil.
