Swansea should take a long look at the Dutchman.
Linked with a move: Robin van Persie
Robin van Persie is reportedly on his way back to England, if the Daily Mail are to be believed.
The national paper have linked the former Arsenal, Manchester United and current Fenerbache striker with a move to Aitor Karanka’s Middlesbrough.
Boro secured their return to the top flight last season, when they finished second ahead of promotion rivals Brighton.
Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has been busy so far this summer
They have already invested in fresh talent during the summer transfer window, bringing in Ajax’s Viktor Fischer and more recently, Champions League winning goalkeeper Victor Valdes.
And now it appears Robin van Persie could be the latest ageing star to make the switch to Teesside.
However, the Flying Dutchman should not solely be under the consideration of Aitor Karanka’s side.
Indeed, Swansea City should be first in the queue to sign the Netherlands’ all time top scorer at an knock down price.
Alberto Paloschi has left Swansea
The Swans have a real dearth in strikers at the moment, with Éder moving permanently to Lille earlier in the summer window, whilst Alberto Paloschi recently completed a switch to Atalanta.
And with Bafetimbi Gomis now linked by outlets including Chronicle live with a move to Sunderland or potentially back to France with Marseille, Swansea are on the verge of total striking crisis.
As such, with a player of the experience and calibre of Robin van Persie available on the market, Swansea should be chomping at the bit to lure the Dutchman to the Liberty.
A proven goalscorer, he could be the ideal option in the Premier League, whether as first choice or as a potent asset providing squad depth.
Van Persie has plenty of Premier League experience
Van Persie still has goals in him. He was Fenerbache’s top scorer last season, despite starting just 20 of the 31 games he has played in Turkey.
During his time in England, he scored an impressive 144 Premier League goals in 280 appearances, scooping the Golden Boot twice.
There is little doubting his pedigree, and at the age of 32, he is far from completely past his best.
