Valencia’s asking price for Portuguese midfielder André Gomes has already deterred Juventus.
Valencia allegedly want €65 million for Gomes
According to Spanish newspaper Marca Valencia are demanding that Manchester United pay £52 million for star midfielder André Gomes.
The Portuguese central midfielder is thought to be one of new manager José Mourinho’s most coveted targets this summer.
Mourinho has already secured the singing of Eric Bailly from fellow La Liga side Villareal, as well as extending the contract of veteran midfielder Michael Carrick for a further year.
Mourinho has already signed Eric Bailly
Manchester United paid a fee thought to be in the region of £32 million for the Ivorian defender, and the Red Devils will have to spend big again if Mourinho is to get his man, with Valencia demanding up to £52 million for Gomes.
Such a high figure has already priced Juventus out of the race to sign the 22 year old midfielder, with the Serie A club only able to offer up to £24 million plus bonuses for the Portuguese international, according to the report.
Juventus are now thought to be out of the running to sign Gomes
Valencia have slapped such a high asking price on their coveted midfielder primarily because they need to find a replacement for the influential figure, but they are also factoring the sell-on clause agreed with Benfica, which stands at 25% of the profit from Gomes’ next transfer fee.
This means that should United meet Valencia’s £52 million watershed, then the Lisbon club would net as much as £10 million.
Gomes is set to play an important role for Portugal at Euro 2016
Gomes is currently preparing with the Portuguese national squad for their opening fixture of Euro 2016, which comes on Tuesday against potential surprise package Iceland.
Having made his debut in September 2014, Gomes is now expected to play a key role in this month’s tournament, and he will undoubtedly be hoping to catch the eye of those watching him, including Mourinho.
