Millwall’s Lee Gregory has allegedly handed in a transfer request at the Den.
Lee Gregory wants to leave Millwall
Millwall’s Lee Gregory has handed in a transfer request with a view to joining Alan Stubbs’ Rotherham United, according to Sky Sports.
Gregory has attracted much interest over the past few weeks, having had an excellent campaign in South London with the Lions.
The former Halifax Town player, who played alongside Jamie Vardy at his former club, scored 27 goals in all competitions for Millwall last term, including 20 in 44 League One appearances.
Gregory is hoping to secure a move to Rotherham
Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side were one club thought to be mulling over a bid for the coveted striker according to the Daily Mail, however it appears that Rotherham is Gregory’s desired destination.
Other Championship clubs were also thought to be in the running, with the Sun suggesting several second tier sides, while the Daily Mail named Wigan Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday and also Brighton & Hove Albion.
Stubbs is targetting Gregory after missing out on Anthony Stokes
Alan Stubbs has turned his attention to Gregory having missed out on preferred target Anthony Stokes, who joined Blackburn Rovers last month on a free transfer from Celtic.
It remains to be seen whether Stubbs will face renewed competition for Gregory’s signature, but interest is sure to increase now that he has announced his intention to leave the Den.
Anthony Stokes elected to join Blackburn over Rotherham
The 27-year-old has played for Millwall since 2014, after he completed a £250,000 move from Halifax.
The Lions narrowly missed out on promotion last term, losing to Barnsley 3-1 in the play-off final.
