The Leicester City manager has said that Riyad Mahrez looked at ease with the squad in Austria.
Riyad Mahrez is linked with a move away from Leicester
Claudio Ranieri has commented on the future of Riyad Mahrez in an interview featured in today’s print edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport and as quoted by Football Italia, saying the Algerian looked at ease with the squad on their pre-season trip to Austria.
Mahrez has been linked with a departure from the King Power stadium throughout the summer, and he looks set to follow teammate N’Golo Kante out the door with the Mirror reporting last Friday that the Algerian is set to snub a new deal worth £100,000 per week.
PFA Player of the Year Mahrez has been linked with a number of clubs, including Arsenal, who Mahrez admitted to Metro he was ‘flattered’ by their interest last month.
Jamie Vardy chose to stay at Leicester over a move to Arsenal
Arsenal have already been pushed back by one Leicester player this summer, with Jamie Vardy turning down the chance to leave the Foxes for the Gunners and a lucrative contract for a fee of £20 million.
Vardy signed a new deal at Leicester, a huge boost for Ranieri, who said as much to La Gazzetta, while also discussing the future of talented winger Mahrez.
It’s decision time for Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez
“It’s enormously important,” he said of Vardy. “He gave everyone a signal. He could have gone to Arsenal, earned more money and taken the last chance to make it in a world-class club.
“Instead he decided to stay with Leicester and it strikes me as a choice along the lines of Gigi Riva. Vardy deserves our gratitude. Mahrez? In Austria he seemed at ease.”
Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri is hoping to cling on to his star players
Leicester are currently in Austria as part of their pre-season preparations ahead of the new season, where they will attempt to hold on to their Premier League crown.
