The Red Devils midfielder says the China tour has been a good bonding exercise.
Carrick has found one positive from United’s tour of China
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has told MUTV that their tour of China has been a good bonding exercise, reassuring fans that the trip was not a complete waste of time.
United’s tour ended in farcical scenes over the weekend, seeing their flight from Shanghai unexpectedly diverted to Tianjin due to bad weather in Beijing, which ultimately claimed the fate of their pre-season clash with Manchester City, which was called off earlier today.
The high heat, the poor playing conditions and the long distances traveled have seemingly made the trip appear to be a complete waste of time, a fact compounded by United’s poor showing against Dortmund earlier in the week, where they were heavily beaten 4-1.

But United stalwart Carrick has reassured fans with his message that, in spite of the subsequent chaos, the Red Devils can take something positive from their trip to the far east.
“It’s gone well in terms of what we want to get out of the trip,” Carrick said. “The Dortmund game was disappointing but training has gone well.

“It’s about getting your fitness work in and also getting to know the manager and the staff and the new players; it’s been a good bonding exercise, which has gone well.”
United’s next fixture will be held in the calmer climate of Sweden, where United take on Galatasaray at the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg on 30 July.
