The versatile Aston Villa man has won back his starting place at Villa Park this season
Leandro Bacuna in action against Derby
Leonardo Bacuna has told the Birmingham Mail that luck was not on Aston Villa’s side after their 0-0 draw with Derby County at the iPro on Saturday.
Bacuna’s side struck the woodwork twice through Gary Gardner and Ross McCormack whilst Tommy Elphick also had a header cleared off the line, as the Villans struggled to find a way past Scott Carson between the sticks for the home side.
And Bacuna believes that Roberto Di Matteo’s side are moving in the right direction, and that they were unlucky not to take all three points from their Midlands clash with the Rams.
Bacuna was not a popular figure last season
“We are fighting hard and creating good chances.
“The luck was not on our side at Derby. We’ve been working on our shape first and trying to keep clean sheets.
“From there on we try to create chances and try to get wins. I think we’re playing very well.
“The only thing is that we need to get some wins and keep going higher up the table.”
Aston Villa’s Leandro Bacuna
Bacuna is currently seeking redemption from the Villa fans after his poor displays at the back-end of last season, as well as the fallout from an interview in which he stated his desire to play Champions League football within two years.
That did not go down well among Villa supporters who booed him as the club collapsed towards relegation, but he has since fought his way back into contention and he is slowly earning the trust back from the Villa fans.
Villa have five points from their first four games
The Villans currently have one win to their name after four fixtures, that coming against Rotherham in their first home game of the season.
