In an interview with nufc tv, Jamaal Lascelles has urged Newcastle supporters to stay with the team despite their side’s underwhelming start to life in the Championship.

The Magpies lost again over the weekend, this time falling short at home to Huddersfield Town, courtesy of a late strike by The Terriers’ Jack Payne.

The Tynesiders were hoping to get their first points on the board after having lost to Fulham on the opening day of the season, but back-to-back defeats now leaves the much fancied promotion favourites joint bottom after an underwhelming start to the new campaign.

But club captain Jamaal Lascelles has urged the St James’ Park faithful to get behind Rafa Benitez’s side, assuring supporters of an improved display against Jaap Stam’s Reading on Wednesday night.

“There’s still loads of games to play. We can’t start blaming each other and get our heads down – we’ve got to stay positive.

“We still need to gel together as a team and I’m glad the game’s around the corner on Wednesday so we can get straight into that.

“I assure all the fans we’ll put in a better performance out there; you’ve just got to stick with us because we are going to keep trying. The talent’s there and we’ll sort it out.”
