Bolton Wanderers are set to take a closer look at the defender
Danny Collins has been taken on trial at Bolton Wanderers, according to Bolton News.
The 35-year-old defender was released by Rotherham United last season, having made 24 appearances for the Millers since joining last summer.
Collins formed part of Neil Warnock’s side who staved off relegation with a stunning 11-match unbeaten run at the back end of last term.
However, following Warnock’s departure and the appointment of new manager Alan Stubbs, Collins was deemed surplus to requirements.
The Welsh defender, who has 12 caps for his country, may now have found a potential suitor in League One side Bolton Wanderers, who are looking to rebuild after a dismal year.
Having amassed a debt that totaled almost £200 million (as reported by the Mirror) by December 2015, the club narrowly avoided an immediate winding up order.
But the damage had already been done, as with a lack of investment the Wanderers plummeted towards relegation, finishing the season 24th.
However, Bolton are now looking upwards as they seek to make a good showing in League 1 next season, and former Nottingham Forest and Stoke City defender could be a wise acquisition.
Collins has a plethora of experience,having turned out for clubs including Stoke City, Ipswich Town and and West Ham United, before spending four of the past five years at the City Ground, where he made over 70 appearances for the Reds.
