Chelsea are closing in on signing Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez with a medical now imminent.

Robert Sanchez looks set to become Chelsea’s latest signing after agreeing a deal for the Brighton and Hove Albion stopper.

That is according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who reports that a deal between Brighton and Chelsea is now in place.

It’s stated that Sanchez will now undergo a medical with Chelsea imminently ahead of completing his move to West London.

Fabrizio Romano adds that Chelsea will be paying around £20million rising to £25million for Sanchez.

Chelsea allowed goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to leave the club this summer as he joined Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.

The Blues needed to add another goalkeeper as competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga and have now gone for Sanchez.

Chelsea goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts worked closely with Sanchez at Brighton and the pair will now reunite at Stamford Bridge.

Sanchez lost his place as Brighton’s first-choice stopper last season and will now hope to oust Kepa between the Chelsea sticks.

Hailed as ‘powerful’ and ‘fast’ by Graham Potter, Sanchez clearly has plenty of talent but must now go and show it in West London.

Arsenal won’t be signing Robert Sanchez barring incredible turnaround

Chelsea have placed a keen focus on signing Sanchez this week, potentially due to fears of Arsenal getting involved.

90Min reported earlier this week that Arsenal had made an enquiry into signing Sanchez.

The Gunners are focused on signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, but they need to have alternative targets in mind.

Fellow Spaniard Sanchez appeared to be one of them as Arsenal seek to add stronger competition for Aaron Ramsdale.

Chelsea – and goalkeeping coach Roberts – won’t have wanted to miss out, especially to a London rival.

Barring a major turn of events, it looks like Sanchez will be heading to Chelsea – and leave Arsenal to concentrate all efforts on Raya.
