Could Markus Babbel land the Rangers job as they seek to replace Mark Warburton?
Markus Babbel
Markus Babbel is the latest name to emerge as a candidate for the Rangers job, according to bookies SkyBet.
Babbel is best remembered for his playing days which saw him feature for Liverpool as well as representing Germany at international level.
Yet he has packed a lot into the last decade, managing in both Germany and Switzerland where he is the current boss of FC Luzern.
If Babbel did land the big job in Glasgow, it could be good news for Rangers defender Danny Wilson, who he is a long term admirer of.
Babbel has managed against Rangers before, when they faced his Stuttgart side in the UEFA Cup in 2009.
Back then Wilson was a teenager breaking into the Gers’ side, and made an instant impression on Babbel.
He told Goal: “I saw the game on Saturday, he’s a big talent.
“If you can play at 17 years in the Scottish league you have to be good, especially if you play for a team like Glasgow Rangers.”

Wilson left Rangers a year later to sign with Babbel’s former club Liverpool, but was unable to establish himself in the side.
After leaving for Hearts in 2013, Wilson rejoined Rangers two years later, and has 17 appearances to his name this season.
Now 25, Wilson’s best years are still potentially ahead of him, and if a manager like Babbel who believes in him can help him kick on then he could finally become the player he was once touted to be.
