Potential Rangers boss Alan Pardew knows Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers well.
Alan Pardew could soon be doing battle in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers against old pal Brendan Rodgers.
If successful in applying, Pardew’s brief would be to build a team capable of toppling Old Firm rivals Celtic.
This will be difficult, but Pardew is a manager who Rodgers knows very well.
The pair worked together as youth coaches at Reading, before going their separate ways.
Pardew made a quicker transition into first team management, and even considered hiring Rodgers.
Pardew told BBC Sport in 2012: “We were both confident in our own ways, but I genuinely thought he would be a coach rather than a manager.
“I actually did think of Brendan as a coach at a few of my other clubs but he’s found his own route and fair play to him.”
Pardew and Rodgers remain close. The Mirror reported how Pardew was a guest of Rodgers at the Old Firm derby back in March.
This relationship would be put to the test if Pardew landed the Rangers job, and the former Newcastle boss would hope to have more luck than other of Rodgers’ old pals, Mark Warburton.
