Liverpool have to put Sunday’s disappointment to one side because the games are coming thick and fast.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were held to a 1-1 draw with West Brom at Anfield on Sunday and with a trip to Newcastle United now looming large on Wednesday, the Reds have to regroup as soon as possible.
But in order to do that, the German manager will need to make a couple of changes at St James’s Park.
Firstly, Joel Matip looks like he is injured again – this time with a groin problem – after pulling up against the Baggies last night.
Rhys Williams replaced him on the night to partner Fabinho in central defence and it’s likely that the 19-year-old will be called upon again against the Magpies.
In midfield, Curtis Jones didn’t have a great game last night and with Naby Keita also ruled out, this is the perfect chance for Klopp to unleash Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The former Arsenal star, a £40 million signing by Liverpool in 2017, has been fit for most of the month after being on the sidelines since July, but Klopp has kept him in reserve for the most part.
But Oxlade-Chamberlain produced a fine cameo against Sam Allardyce’s side, bringing some real attacking thrust to the proceedings and don’t be surprised if Klopp finally names him in his first XI.
Here’s how the Premier League champions could line up: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Williams, Fabinho, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Mane, Salah, Firmino
