Sheffield United could reportedly lose John Fleck to West Ham United, but it might help them secure the signature of Aston Villa’s Scott Hogan.
Transfer deadline day is edging closer as managers, players and clubs across the country try to eek out any last-minute deals before Jim White can hibernate until the summer.
Sky Sports report that West Ham United are keen on striking a deal for Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck before Thursday’s deadline.
Added with that, Sky Sports also claim that Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan is free to leave the club, with the Blades and Championship rivals Bristol City interested in adding him to their squad.
While Chris Wilder doesn’t want to lose Fleck in his push for promotion, the one positive that can come out of the Scotsman’s potential move to the London Stadium is it can help them land Hogan from Villa.
Financially, United don’t have the spending power other Championship clubs have, particularly those who have been recently relegated from the Premier League and have parachute payments.
Therefore, allowing Fleck to leave through one door and bringing in Hogan through the other, won’t exactly hurt their pockets that much.
Not only that, but it may also help Villa, who will no doubt want the best deal possible for their struggling forward, as the Sky report suggests that Hogan could move on loan before a permanent deal is discussed.
Either way, all three clubs, two of whom are hoping to finish in the Championship’s top-six, will be hoping to strike deals late on in the window which will hopefully provide them with the much-needed push for the second half of the campaign.
