Could Aston Villa’s Jed Steer be in major trouble if Jack Butland is signed?

If rumours are believed, Aston Villa are weighing up a bank-breaking move for Jack Butland.
According to The Birmingham Mail, the newly-promoted Premier League outfit are willing to spend £20 million on signing the Stoke City goalkeeper.
Aston Villa fans would no doubt love to see their club make such a big-money transfer this summer, as a demonstration of their ambition to stay in the top flight for many years to come.
But one Villan will be gutted if he sees Butland arriving at Bodymoor Heath and that’s Jed Steer.
Steer was an ever-present figure during the second half of the season as Dean Smith’s side romped to a playoff finish and ultimately promotion, starting 18 games since returning from loan with Charlton Athletic in January.
But is he most likely to suffer by Butland’s potential arrival? You’d think not, considering the role he played in helping Aston Villa go up.
Then again, Villa spent £7 million on a goalkeeper in January – Lovre Kalinic [The Telegraph]. This was a Smith signing and it doesn’t make sense that he’d dump Kalinic only six months after signing him, especially given his price-tag.
One of them will have to go, and if Butland comes in then Steer, despite his heroics, might be the most likely to depart.
