CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs has reported on Twitter that a Qatar-based consortium is interested in buying Liverpool from Fenway Sports Group (FSG).
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that the consortium from Qatar is currently thinking of buying Liverpool, and that it is in the very early stage.
This comes after The Daily Mail reported that Liverpool have held discussions with two Middle East-based consortiums over a £3 billion takeover.
Representatives of consortiums from Saudi Arabia and Qatar have expressed an interest in buying the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners.

Exciting takeover update for Liverpool fans
In our view, interest from Qatar (and Saudi Arabia) in buying Liverpool from FSG is very exciting for the fans.
We have seen how clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United have transformed or are transforming under Middle-Eastern ownership.
Under QSI, PSG have established themselves as one of the biggest clubs in Europe who regularly compete for the UEFA Champions League.
Newcastle are going strong under PIF and could end up in the Premier League top four this season.
Manchester City, who have made winning the Premier League title a regular occurrence, are controlled by City Football Group Limited (CFG), whose main owners are The Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ADUG).
Investment from Qatar or Saudi Arabia will eventually see Liverpool close the gap between themselves and City and help them compete for the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League better season after season.
As Jacobs notes, the potential investors from Qatar are only just starting to explore the idea of buying Liverpool, but it is still very exciting for Liverpool fans.
It shows that rich people in the Middle East think that they can take Liverpool to even greater heights, both on the pitch and off it.
Takeovers take time, and we think that the Liverpool fans should stay patient.
But the Anfield faithful should certainly be optimistic and confident of a brighter and better future for the club.
