Rio Ferdinand has stated that Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek have ‘something to prove’ at Everton, after their deadline day exits from Tottenham and Manchester United, as he told Vibe with Five.

The Premier League legend added that the midfield duo are ‘postitive signings’ for Everton.

Whilst Van de Beek has left for Goodison Park on a loan deal, Alli departed Spurs for good after seven years at the club, but a number of seasons of struggle.

The duo will now work under the stewardship of Frank Lampard, who is just starting to get comfortable at the club himself after replacing Rafa Benitez at Finch Farm this week.

There is no doubt that the mood in recent days has been more uplifting at the club, compared to the problem after problems when Benitez was in charge.

Some of those problems are still there, but that tide may well be changing with Lampard now at the helm.

Nonetheless, this is what Ferdinand had to say about Alli and Van de Beek’s deadline day moves.

“I have spoken to Frank over the last couple of days,” said Ferdinand. “There is no secret at Everton that they need bodies in the middle of the park.

“They haven’t got the legs. The dynamic players. He has signed two players who can move around the pitch. But also know how to get goals and effect games, if they are given the confidence, if they are given the platform to perform.

“I think Dele Alli has something to prove. Van de Beek has something to prove. I think they are positive signings.”

There is no doubt that there will be fire in the belly of both Alli and Van de Beek because of how things have panned out for them.

Whether it’s Alli going from goalscoring phenomenon to can now no longer hit a barn door to Van de Beek struggling to get onto the Old Trafford pitch.

Either way, if Lampard can point their heads in the right direction, then Everton may have two players just willing to kick and punch everything that gets in their way.

But the key thing here is that the Toffees needed players of their ilk and they will suit and complement what is already in the club’s midfield in Allan and Abdoulaye Doucouré.
