Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has outlined that midfielder Oliver Skipp is absolutely part of his plans.

Oliver Skipp is in the plans at Tottenham Hotspur according to new boss Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou has been speaking to Football London this morning as Tottenham’s pre-season preparations continue.

Sunday’s friendly against Leicester City in Thailand was postponed to much frustration but Spurs will take on Lion City Sailors tomorrow.

Players will be desperate to impress Postecoglou and Skipp will be one of them.

The homegrown midfielder started for Spurs against West Ham United last week, playing the first half in a 3-2 defeat.

Skipp turns 23 in September and will be keen to kick on with his career having so far struggled to nail down a starring role at Tottenham.

Skipp is highly-regard at Spurs though and Postecoglou has now outlined his desire for the midfielder to stay.

Postecoglou admitted that Skipp is ‘absolutely’ part of his plans at Tottenham moving forward.

The Australian added that he liked Skipp’s decision to join the Spurs pre-season tour despite featuring for the England Under-21’s this summer.

“He’s part of my plans absolutely,” said Postecoglou. “We gave him the option and it’s fair to say with a tournament and him being successful, you want him to enjoy that. We did leave it in his corner. I was more than prepared for him to miss this part of the trip but in the back of my mind I did like his decision,” he added.

Leeds United may need to forget about Oliver Skipp

Postecoglou’s commitment to Skipp comes amid claims that he may be on the radar at Leeds United this summer.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has stated on The Square Ball Podcast that new Leeds boss Daniel Farke ‘would love’ to bring Skipp to Elland Road.

Farke took Skipp on loan at Norwich City back in 2020, giving him a vital role as the Canaries won promotion to the Premier League.

Farke admitted that Skipp was his top transfer target for the summer 2020 window, calling him a ‘perfect’ signing for Norwich.

Now taking charge at Leeds, Farke will be keen to stamp his authority on the squad and bring in some new faces.

Farke may just have one eye on Skipp’s situation at Tottenham in the hope of adding him to the Leeds midfield.

Tempting Skipp to drop into the Championship could have been difficult anyway, even before Postecoglou’s comments.

Skipp’s attitude has impressed Postecoglou and we can’t see a move to Leeds materialising unless there is a staggering change of plans.
