Tottenham Hotspur agreed the signing of Wales winger Brennan Johnson on deadline day after Ange Postecoglou pushed Spurs to seal his transfer from Nottingham Forest.
That is according to The Telegraph, which reports that Tottenham regard Johnson as a major part of the new project after selling Harry Kane. The 22-year-old was also Postecoglou’s top target as the Australian looks to establish a new attacking style in north London this season.
Postecoglou adores what Johnson has to offer and pushed Tottenham to wrap up a transfer before the sales slammed shut. Spurs, ultimately, announced his arrival in a £47.5m deal as the window closed. Nottingham Forest retain a 10% sell-on clause for their club-record sale.
Johnson will wear No22 at Tottenham after his deadline day transfer
Johnson will wear the No22 shirt with Tottenham and signed a six-year contract to leave his boyhood team, Nottingham Forest. The Nottingham-born dynamo joined the Reds’ ranks in 2009 and went on to make 109 senior appearances. He also offered 29 goals and 12 assists.

Why did Postecoglou push to sign the Nottingham Forest product?
Johnson’s ability to play on either wing or as a centre-forward played a part in Postecoglou’s decision to push Tottenham to secure his deadline day transfer from Nottingham Forest. But it was not the primary aspect that made the 19-cap Wales winger Postecoglou’s top target.
Instead, the Spurs boss highlighted his speed after Johnson clocked the second-fast speed in the Premier League last season. The forward, who Wales boss Rob Page calls ‘wonderful’, hit 36.7 km/h (22.8 mph). Postecoglou sees pace as a fundamental part of his plan at Spurs.
Tottenham, eventually, wrapped up Postecoglou’s dream transfer as deadline day neared its end. He coveted Johnson’s transfer from Nottingham Forest as pace and athleticism are two of the fundamental aspects of Postecoglou’s vision for a new Tottenham team without Kane.
