Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has praised midfielder Pape Matar Sarr as an ‘outstanding’ player.
Pape Matar Sarr appears to have made a positive early impression on new Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou has been speaking to Football London ahead of today’s friendly against Lion City Sailors.
The Australian was asked whether Sarr is part of his plans for Tottenham moving into the new season.
Postecoglou responded in excited fashion, remarking a ‘what a player’ Sarr is whilst suggesting that he will ‘absolutely’ be part of the Spurs squad this season.
Postecoglou called Sarr ‘outstanding’ and noted that he is ‘always happy’ and ‘never stops smiling’.
The new Spurs boss believes that Sarr is a ‘great talent’ and is part of an exciting crop of young talents at Tottenham.
Postecoglou named Sarr, Destiny Udogie and Oliver Skipp as the young players Tottenham can be excited about moving forward.
“Absolutely. What a player,” said Postecoglou. “He never stops smiling, what else do you want from a footballer? He’s outstanding and he’s always happy. I’ve seen plenty of outstanding players who are fairly miserable.”
“He’s a great talent. That part really excited me at the moment that we have a clutch with Destiny, Pappy, Skippy. We’ve got a talented and very exciting group there. There’s some real growth there for us apart from establishing a team that can make an impact straight away,” he added.

Pape Matar Sarr will finally hope to make Tottenham impact
Sarr emerged as one of the top young talents in French football having shown huge promise with Metz.
Tottenham pounced in the summer of 2021, striking a £14.6million deal but loaning the midfielder back to Metz.
Sarr started his Spurs career last summer but there were rumours of a loan move away from Tottenham both in the summer and in January.
The season was a tad frustrating for Sarr; the 20-year-old started just two Premier League games and came off the bench nine times.

Sarr mustered just 213 minutes of Premier League action and it’s hard to tell just what his role will be under Postecoglou.
Sarr could play in a holding role in Postecoglou’s 4-3-3 but he may be better off as more of a shuttling player like Reo Hatate was for Postecoglou at Celtic.
Hatate was able to dictate the play from deep but also break forward to contribute in the final third.
Sarr showed box-to-box promise at Metz and he will now have hope that he can enjoy a Tottenham breakthrough after Postecoglou’s comments.
