Ange Postecoglou has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma having impressed this summer.

Yves Bissouma has been ‘really good’ this summer according to new Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham are going in a new direction under Postecoglou.

The fairly boring approach under Antonio Conte, which was mostly played in a 3-4-3 system, has gone.

Postecoglou is going with a very attack-minded approach, as we saw against West Ham United in midweek.

That game ended in defeat for Spurs but there were encouraging signs in their attacking play.

Spurs are looking to be far more progressive in midfield under Postecoglou, as seen with the addition of James Maddison.

The approach also seems to suit Yves Bissouma, who had a fairly low-key debut season at Tottenham after joining for £25million.

Ange Postecoglou praises Yves Bissouma

Bissouma started just 10 Premier League games last season in a fairly disappointing debut campaign.

Now fully fit and ready to make a big impact, Bissouma looks right at home under Postecoglou.

The 26-year-old loves to dictate play from deep but is also capable of carrying the ball forward and making an impact in the final third.

Bissouma almost scored against West Ham just a few days ago as neat interplay saw him break into the box, only to be denied by Lukasz Fabianski.

Postecoglou certainly seems to like what he has seen and has now moved to praise the Mali international.

Postecoglou has told Football London that he thinks Bissouma can play in a number of midfield roles and not just as a number six.

That was seen in today’s lineup against Leicester City as Bissouma seemed to be given a more advanced role before the game was postponed.

Postecoglou feels that Bissouma has been ‘really good’ this pre-season and is certainly excited to be working with him at Tottenham.

“Biss has been good and I think he’s a midfielder that can play in a number of areas for us,” said Postecoglou. “I don’t seem him exclusively as a number six. But he’s been really good since I’ve come here, he was one of the ones that was in in the first days so he’s had a bit longer with us than the international players from Day One.”

“He’s got bags of energy, you know when he’s around and it’s great. He’s got a great personality. He’s a very, very good footballer. I’m looking forward to working with him. I think he can play a big part for us,” said Postecoglou.
