Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has praised goalkeeper Fraser Forster after signing a new contract to stay in North London.
Tottenham decided to move on from Hugo Lloris over the summer, going in a new direction by signing stopper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli.
Lloris hasn’t moved on; he is still at Tottenham but effectively frozen out after more than 10 years of service at Tottenham.
Vicario has impressed this season and Ange Postecoglou will be delighted to know that he has a solid backup goalkeeper behind the Italian in Fraser Forster.
Fraser Forster praised by Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou
Forster arrived at Tottenham from Southampton in 2022, offering a homegrown option as backup to Lloris.
The 35-year-old ended up playing 20 games last season and certainly didn’t disgrace himself when called upon.
Forster only signed a two-year deal though, and Tottenham have now moved to keep him at the club for a little longer.
Tottenham confirmed on Wednesday that Forster has signed a new deal until 2025, adding an extra year to his stay.
Spurs boss Postecoglou has now offered his verdict on Forster, telling Football London that he is ‘delighted’ to keep him at the club.

The Australian suggested that Forster trains at a truly ‘elite level’ at Hotspur Way and is ‘absolutely’ a Premier League-level goalkeeper.
Postecoglou noted that players who don’t play very often can really affect the mood around the camp, but Forster is nothing but a joy to be around.
Postecoglou added that Forster is an ‘example to everyone’ at Tottenham and left the door open for an even longer stay.
“I’m delighted we have signed Fraser on for another year. His training is elite level and he is a Premier League-standard keeper absolutely,” said Postecoglou. “Often in most squads it is the guys who aren’t playing regularly who affect the mood but to have a guy like him is a hell of an example to everyone else. I’m delighted to have him on board for at least another year and hopefully beyond that,” he added.
Forster may get a chance in the Tottenham side in January as they face an FA Cup clash against Burnley.
The former England international seems to be happy with his current role; backing up Vicario whilst offering invaluable Premier League experience to the Italian in his first season in English football.
Forster will be ready to go if called upon and it’s absolutely clear that Postecoglou is a huge fan of the former Celtic stopper.
