Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou believes the likes of Destiny Udogie and Oliver Skipp would be embarrassed with him talking about their illnesses.

Tottenham headed to face Manchester United on Sunday with a threadbare squad.

Spurs already had a host of injuries and a few players off on international duty for major tournaments.

Ange Postecoglou’s were dented even further as the Tottenham squad suffered with an illness moving throughout the camp.

Winger Dejan Kulusevski missed the game with that illness and Postecoglou has noted that at least two more players were struggling.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou comments on Destiny Udogie illness

Postecoglou has told Sky Sports that left back Destiny Udogie and midfielder Oliver Skipp were both ‘under the weather all week’ ahead of facing United.

The Tottenham boss indicated that other players weren’t exactly in tip-top shape heading into Sunday’s clash.

Postecoglou did though suggest that Skipp and Udogie are probably ‘embarrassed’ to hear the Spurs boss talking about their illnesses.

Postecoglou thinks that they would rather just get on with it and not have anybody feeling sorry for them, believing that is the mentality Tottenham have shown all season.

“Yeah, he hadn’t trained all week,” said Postecoglou about Kulusevski. “Skippy was under the weather all week, Destiny was under the weather all week, a couple of other guys. To their credit though, they’re probably embarrassed me talking about it, because all year, we’ve just got on with it,” he added.

Udogie got through the full 90 minutes whilst Skipp played 85 minutes before being substituted for new signing Radu Dragusin.

Udogie did a fine job of defending against Alejandro Garnacho whilst supporting the Tottenham attack well, but did nearly score an own goal as he hit his own post with a first-half header.

Skipp was workmanlike as ever and helped Tottenham dominate possession, filling in well with Spurs missing so many midfielders right now.

Postecoglou will love the dedication to play through illness from Udogie and Skipp, even if he fears he may have embarrassed them in the media.

Sympathy will be in short supply anyway; that’s just the nature of football fans and there will be few non-Tottenham fans feeling sorry for Spurs right now as they battle through numerous absences.
