Championship giants Leeds United would have to pay a substantial fee to bring Serbian international striker Aleksandar Prijovic to Elland Road from PAOK.

PAOK’s decision to pay Legia Warsaw £1.6 million for Aleksandar Prijovic in January looks a good one. Because, one year on, the Serbian striker could earn his Greek Super League employers a rather impressive profit.
According to Goal Cyprus, Prijovic’s fine form at PAOK has earned him plenty of admirers – among them Leeds United.
The report states that Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen is a big fan of the 27-year-old but the Championship giants, who have won five out of six games to throw themselves back into the promotion race, would have to pay a hefty sum to bring Prijovic to Elland Road.

It is understood that there is an £8.8 million release clause in the 6ft 2ins targetman’s contract. This would make him Leeds’ most expensive signing since Robbie Fowler rocked up in West Yorkshire from Liverpool to the tune of £11 million, as reported by The Telegraph.
Needless to say, Prijovic would have a lot to do in order to equal the impact Fowler made at Elland Road.

Whether he’d be worthy of such a fee, however, is up for debate. Prijovic has netted 14 goals since moving to PAOK, including seven in 14 games this season. A one-in-two record is certainly respectable and, in the modern market, probably makes him a bit of a bargain at £8.8 million.
Yet, like the majority of the players brought to Leeds by director of football Victor Orta, Prijovic has little experience of English football (except for two forgettable years at Derby at the start of his career) and remains an unproven prospect.
Prijovic, like Mateusz Klich, Ezgjan Alioski, Jay-Roy Grot and co, would be a risk. But a very expensive one that would take up most of Leeds’ January budget.
