Ipswich are reportedly considering Frank Lampard as their new manager, which could give Sunderland the opportunity to hire Jack Ross from St Mirren.

Frank Lampard reporttd for BT Sport during The Emirates FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium on May 19, 2018 in London, England.

Frank Lampard has emerged as a leading candidate to become the new manager of Ipswich Town, according to the Mirror.

Lampard has been interviewed twice by Tractor Boys owner Marcus Evans and, having impressed, is rivalling Jack Ross for the position.

Jack Ross manager of Alloa Athletic waves during the Betfred League Cup Group match between Raith Rovers and Alloa Athletic at Stark's Park on July 30, 2016 in Kirkcaldy, Scotland.

As the BBC reports, Ross has also held talks with Ipswich about succeeding Mick McCarthy as boss, with his current club St Mirren offering the 41-year-old an improved contract to try and keep him at Paisley as a result.

Good news for Sunderland?

If Lampard does move into management and takes charge at Portman Road, then that could be greeted in positive fashion at the Stadium of Light.

Eastleigh chairman Stewart Donald looks on prior to the Pre-Season Friendly match between Eastleigh and Northampton Town at Silverlake Stadium on August 1, 2014 in Eastleigh, Hampshire.

That is because, as the Chronicle outlines, new Black Cats owner Stewart Donald is also keen on Ross and has already held talks with the Scot himself.

It was confirmed that Donald had bought the Wearside club from Ellis Short on Monday (May 21) and one of the first tasks is finding a permanent successor in the dugout to Chris Coleman.
