It was a good and bad evening for Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi during a loan appearance on Thursday night.
On one hand, Guendouzi managed to play the entire 90 minutes as Marseille beat PAOK 2-1 in a Europa Conference League encounter last night.
On the other, the controversial 22-year-old, exiled by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, didn’t have a stellar appearance in terms of individual statistics.
According to Sofa Score, Guendouzi clocked an overall rating of only 6.2 – the lowest of any Marseille player against the Greek outfit.
That’s probably because he wasn’t the most economic in possession.
Sloppy
Guendouzi, who cost Arsenal £8 million under Unai Emery during the summer of 2018, lost possession a whopping 15 times last night, and was dribbled past three times to illustrate that he wasn’t up to par defensively either.
He also only clocked a passing success rate of 80 percent to further suggest it wasn’t a brilliant day at the office for the Frenchman.
Still, there’s no doubt that Guendouzi is improving as a player away from Arsenal.
He is a full France international after being capped by his country on three occasions this season, something that might not have happened in North London under Arteta.
As mentioned, the kid is still only 22.
This is a player who’s going to get a lot better but performances like this are simply par for the course in his ongoing development.
