Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane failed to complete the EFL Cup tie against Liverpool on Tuesday.

Leeds United midfielder Eunan O’Kane has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that he is not going to have any operation to sort his pelvic injury.

The 26-year-old midfielder returned from international duty with the Republic of Ireland last month with a pelvic injury.

The former Bournemouth midfielder featured for Leeds in the EFL Cup quarter-final tie against Liverpool away from home at Anfield on Tuesday evening.

O’Kane started the match, but he was substituted in the 28th minute due to injury.

The Leeds summer signing has given an update on his injury situation, stating that no surgery is required – something for the fans to be cheerful about.

“If that was the case you wouldn’t have seen me after the international break,” O’Kane told The Yorkshire Evening Post regarding an operation. “We’d have got it (surgery) done then. It’s just something that’s there and annoying.

“Since I came back from the international break I haven’t been able to train much. I’ve not trained to the same level as the other boys and I’ve not done a full week.

“I damaged a ligament high up in my pelvis and as far as we’re led to believe, the issue is coming from fluid from that injury. It seems to find its way to the nerve in my groin and that’s excruciating when it starts giving me pain.

“We’re doing everything we can to get rid of it and up until Tuesday I’d been getting through games, only feeling it towards the end. It’s not been a huge issue but 15 minutes into the game on Tuesday it was there.”

O’Kane is a good midfielder and has proven Championship experience, and he will be an important player for Leeds as the season progresses.

The former Torquay United midfielder has featured in 11 league matches for the Whites so far this campaign.

Leeds are fifth in the Championship table at the moment with 29 points from 18 matches.

Garry Monk’s side will take on Aston Villa at Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday evening.
