Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere could be back in action sooner than expected.

Arsenal have been handed a huge boost as boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere is ahead of schedule in his recovery from injury.

The England international suffered a serious ankle ligament damage during the Gunners’ 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United at the end of November.

Initial prognosticates suggested that Wilshere would be ruled out for as long as four months, missing a number of key fixtures including the Champions League encounters with French outfit Monaco.

It was a huge blow for Wenger’s side, coming at a time when the North London outfit were beginning to build momentum and recover from a slow start to the season.

The initial doom and gloom, however, has been lifted somewhat due to an upturn in form, and the results of Wilshere’s rehabilitation program has caused further reason to feel optimistic.

“Jack is progressing quicker than expected – he could be back by the end of February,” Wenger was quoted as saying by The Mirror.

Should the 23-year-old return before the turn of spring, then he could be available in time for his side’s Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against Monaco away from home as well as England’s Euro 2016 clash with Lithuania.

Wilshere has started seven Premier League fixtures this season, contributing with just one goal and one assist.
