Portugal player ratings v Ghana: Moutinho diamond in the rough

João Moutinho had an excellent game in midfield for Portugal as his side beat Ghana 2-1 and were officially knocked out of the World Cup.

Beto 6 – Bit of a nothing game, didn’t have a lot to do but certainly gave it his all, which you saw with him crying after being substituted with injury late on.

João Pereira 6 – Didn’t have the best game and was sacrificed on the hour mark for Silvestre Varela.

Pepe 5 – Returned from his suspension and had a disappointing game in truth, lacked any real class.

Bruno Alves 6 – Had an average game but along with the rest of the defence, just kept leaking Ghana opportunities.

Miguel Veloso 7 – Decent game for Veloso, got down the wing well and forced Portugal’s first goal. Did leave gaps in the defence however when he went forwards.

João Moutinho 8 – Had a really good game in the middle, showed spark and flair and was by far Portugal’s best player against Ghana.

William Carvalho 6 – Tough game for the new kid, did well but looked a little out of depth at times. Will come as great experience.

Rúben Amorim 5 – Was missing most of the match, didn’t do anything to help his team and was a big reason for the lack of creativity they had.

Nani 5 – His performance summed up his season, just not quite cutting it. When he looks as though he should beat a man he doesn’t, and every cross was dismal.

Cristiano Ronaldo 6 – May have got the winner but in truth had a very poor performance, should have had a hat-trick. It really wasn’t his World Cup.

Eder 5 – Provided no help in attack, and was poor with every opportunity thrown at him.
