Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t do enough to prevent his Portugal team from losing 4-0 to Germany.

Portugal player ratings

Patricio 5 – Never played well and nearly lost it straight away with a poor kick leading to a Sami Khedira open-goal opportunity.

Joao Pereira 7 – Despite the score, Pereira played well, made some crucial tackles and blocks.

Fábio Coentrao 7 – Much like Pereira, had a very good game, the scoreline did not reflect his performance.

Miguel Veloso 5 – Barely had a game, conceding three in the first half and was sacrificed at half-time because of the Pepe red card.

Pepe 1 – Very silly. The sending-off could have cost his team World Cup group qualification. Not only let his team down, but his country too.

Bruno Alves 5 – Never did much to help his team.

Joao Moutinho 6 – Showed good skill and turns, but that was the only flair Portugal had.

Raul Meireles 5 – Gave the ball away lots, contributed nothing and was missing for most of the game.

Hugo Almeida 4 – Unlucky to get injured and be substituted after only 28 minutes

Nani 5 – Seem to actually hinder his team more than anything. So many times he had opportunities to feed his team-mates through, but the final ball let him down every time.

Cristiano Ronaldo 5 – Probably the biggest anti-climax of the World Cup so far. Frustration showed and he seemed to want to do it all himself at times.
