Yet another player is being linked with moves to both Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

Portsmouth’s Jack Whatmough is out of contract at the end of this season, and according to the Sun, Celtic and Rangers are leading the race to sign him for what is being described as ‘minimal training compensation’.

The report emerged just hours after it was claimed by Chicago-based website, the Athletic, that Celtic are likely to recent Rangers trialist, Andrew Gutman.

But is Whatmough – a centre-back who progressed through Portsmouth’s academy system and has been capped by England at under-19 level – another who will divide the Old Firm rivals in 2019?

This is what those of a Pompey persuasion are saying about the rumour on social media…

Both Celtic and Rangers, who are neck-and-neck at the top of the Scottish Premiership, could be in need of centre-backs come the summer transfer window.

As it stands Celtic will lose Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic at the end of their deals, with those of Gareth McAuley and Joe Worrall also up at Rangers.
