Back in 2008, Portsmouth shocked English football by winning the FA Cup. Since then, it has been a little chaotic.

10 years ago to the day, Portsmouth achieved one of the greatest moments in their history by winning the FA Cup thanks to a first-half goal from Kanu.

Unfairly dubbed a ‘low-key’ affair, both Portsmouth and championship side Cardiff City battled and deserved their place in the final as each club dreamt of lifting the trophy at the end of 90 minutes.

It was Portsmouth who clinched that honour, winning their first FA Cup since 1939 and gaining qualification to the UEFA Cup the following season, where they found moderate success, coming painfully close to defeating European giants AC Milan on home soil, only to let in a last-minute equaliser scored by Filippo Inzaghi.

Since then, Portsmouth’s standing within the English game has changed dramatically, to say the least. A long line of poor owners, questionable signings, financial irresponsibility and repeated relegations have seen the side from the south coast having to adapt to life in the lower reaches of the football league.

However, Portsmouth’s support has never wavered, bringing in strong crowds despite the turmoil both on and off the pitch. This season saw them come close to securing a play-off place in League One but it was not meant to be.

Through all the change and turmoil at the club, their FA Cup triumph is still deemed as glorious as it was on the very day they won it.
