West Ham have paid Preston North End around £10 million for the striker.
Jordan Hugill
West Ham made one of the more surprising moves on transfer deadline day, by snapping up Jordan Hugill from Preston North End. The striker is undoubtedly a decent player, but Hammers fans were expecting someone slightly more eye-catching to walk through the door.
According to reports, including one from the BBC, he will cost West Ham around £10 million – quite a fee for an unproven striker in the Premier League.

One team that are definitely happy at that deal and price-tag are Port Vale. The League Two side signed Hugill from Marske United in 2013 but, according to the Stoke Sentinel, when he headed to Preston a 20 per cent sell on clause was inserted regarding his next move.
If the fee is £10 million, then Port Vale stand to make around £2 million off the deal. Whilst that does not seem like a lot of money to a Premier League, or even Championship side anymore, down in the lower reaches of the Football League such a fee can be a lifesaver.

Considering that Hugill only played one season at Vale Park, it has turned out to be a great investment.
In fact, Port Vale fans are probably happier with the deal going through than the fans are at West Ham. Hopefully he can prove his doubters wrong and go on to have a fruitful Premier League career.
