Wolverhampton Wanderers have launched a bid for Preston North End striker Jordan Hugill, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Hugill is regarded as one of the best young forwards in the Championship after catching the eye for Preston this season.

The 24-year-old has impressed at Preston since joining from Port Vale in 2014 after starting his career in non-league football.

Hugill finished as Preston’s top scorer this season with 13 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions.

Ipswich have held a long-term interest in Hugill and saw two bids for the powerful forward rejected by Preston during the January transfer window.

Wolves have been keeping tabs on Hugill’s progress for several months and they have now firmed up their interest with a £2million bid.

Wolves boss Paul Lambert looking to add some genuine Championship quality and experience to his squad at Molineux for next season after a below-par campaign this term.

Preston are reluctant to lose Hugill as they see him as someone who is key to their future plans, but they could face a fight to keep hold of the striker this summer.
