Shaun MacDonald celebrates with team mates after scoring the first goal for Bournemouth
Wigan Athletic are closing in on the signing of Bournemouth midfielder Shaun MacDonald, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Wigan are in the market for a new midfielder after selling Emyr Huws to Cardiff and they have lined up a move for Huws’ Wales international team-mate MacDonald.
MacDonald has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Bournemouth side in recent years and has found himself playing a back-up role in Eddie Howe’s plans.

McDonald made just three Premier League appearances last term in Bournemouth’s first season back in the top flight with his six other outings coming in the cup competitions.
The 28-year-old, who joined Bournemouth from Swansea in 2011, helped the club on their remarkable rise from League One to the Premier League, but he has slipped down the pecking order.
