HITC Sport understands Port Vale are set to miss out deal for loan star Whitfield as interest mounts.

Port Vale are set to miss out on a permanent deal for Bournemouth loan star Ben Whitfield with a number of other clubs chasing his signature, HITC Sport understands.
Whitfield has impressed for Port Vale this season playing in a central midfield role or out wide in an attacking role.
Whitfield initially joined Port Vale on a six-month loan deal last summer, but extended it until the end of the season during the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old has made 40 appearances in all competitions for Port Vale so far this season, chipping in with four goals and three assists.
Whitfield has established himself as a big fans’ favourite during his time at Vale Park and the club were keen to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.

However, it looks as if Vale will not be able to do a deal for Whitfield and a number of other League One and League Two are ready to move for the player this summer.
News of Vale’s failure to land Whitfield will come as a major blow to Neil Aspin’s plans for next season as the midfielder had established himself as a key man in his starting XI.
Whitfield’s contract at Bournemouth expires this summer and his suitors in League One and League Two see him as one of the bargains of the summer as a free agent.
