Derby County, Bristol City and Hull City are weighing up moves for Birmingham City midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld, HITC Sport understands.

Kieftenbeld’s future at Birmingham remains uncertain after a proposed move to Derby fell through on transfer deadline day in the summer.

A deal was agreed between Derby and Birmingham for the Dutchman’s signature, but the English Football League refused to sanction the transfer and Kieftenbeld was forced to stay at St Andrew’s.

Kieftenbeld has not let the situation affect him and has won his place back in the side under Steve Cotterill with a number of commanding performances.

The 27-year-old is out of contract at Birmingham this summer and his suitors are aware that he could be available for a bargain fee in January if Birmingham decide to cash-in on him, rather than risk allowing him to run down his contract and leave for free at the end of the season.

Derby boss Gary Rowett remains keen on bringing Kieftenbeld to the iPro Stadium in January as he is big fan of the player having worked with him during his time in charge of Birmingham.

However, Derby could face competition from Championship rivals Bristol City and Hull City for Kieftenbeld with both sides looking to bolster their midfield options when the transfer window reopens in January.
