HITC Sport understands West Brom are on the verge of signing Scunthorpe defender Conor Townsend.
Scunthorpe United defender Conor Townsend is undergoing a medical at West Bromwich Albion ahead of joining the Championship club, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
A number of clubs, including Hull City and Ipswich Town have been chasing Townsend this summer, but West Brom have moved to agree a deal with Scunthorpe and the player has been given permission to hold talks and undergo a medical.
Townsend has impressed at Scunthorpe since joining the club from Hull in 2016 and has gone on to make 85 appearances for the Iron.
The 25-year-old came up through the ranks with Hull having spent 15 years with the club, but made just one first-team appearance for the Tigers.
Townsend was enterting the final year of his contract at Scunthorpe and although the club were keen to keep him at Glanford Park they accepted they could risk allowing him to run down his contract.
West Brom boss Darren Moore has moved to bring in Townsend so that he can provide cover and competition for Kieran Gibbs at left-back at the Hawthorns next season.
Townsend will become West Brom’s fifth signing of the summer should he come through his medical following the arrivals of Sam Johnstone, Kyle Bartley, Jonathan Bond and Harvey Barnes.
