HITC Sport understands the Sunderland youngster is set to become the latest young talent to move to Germany.

Highly-rated Sunderland teenager Sam Greenwood is set to leave the club to join German Bundesliga side Stuttgart, someone close to the club with knowledge of the situation told HITC.

16-year-old Greenwood is regarded as one of the best young talents in his age range and he has represented England at U16 level.

The skilful forward was a regular in Sunderland’s U18’s side this season and his performances for club and country have brought him to the attention of a number of clubs higher up the footbal pyramid across the country.

There has been a growing trend in the last couple of years of young English-based players heading to Germany to make a quicker pathway to first-team football.

Bundesliga clubs are regularly scouting the best young talents in England, feeling they can offer them a better way of developing and breaking into senior football.

Stuttgart have been keeping tabs on Greenwood’s situation at Sunderland and they are now ready to sign him after he turned down a contract at the Stadium of Light.

Stuttgart finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season and they see Greenwood as a potential star in the making in the future.
