Peterborough United striker Joe Gormley has agreed a deal to join St Johnstone on a season-long loan deal, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Gormley has found himself down the pecking order at Peterborough this season, making just one brief cameo appearance off the bench in the 5-1 win over Millwall.

Peterborough boss Grant McCann is willing to let Gormley move on in a bid to get regular first-team football under his belt.

Gormley is back to full fitness after suffering a serious knee injury last September which forced him to miss the majority of last season.

The news was a major blow for Gormley after he joined Peterborough in the summer of 2015 from Irish League side Cliftonville.

The 25-year-old moved to London Road in June after scoring 40 goals in Northern Ireland for Cliftonville in 2014.

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is looking for a new striker to add to his squad before the close of the transfer window and he has identified Gormley as his top target.

Wright is a big admirer of Gormley and he believes his fellow Northern Irishman will prove a valuable addition to his squad at McDiarmid Park having picked up just one win in the Scottish Premiership so far this season.
