HITC Sport understands Southampton and Wolfsburg have agreed fees for FC Basel star Elyounoussi.
Southampton are battling German side Wolfsburg for FC Basel attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi after both clubs agreed fees with the Swiss club for the Norweigan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
A number of clubs, including Leicester City have been tracking Elyounoussi’s progress, but Southampton and Wolfsburg are leading the chase for his signature after agreeing fees in the region of £17million for the player.
Both clubs are now set to hold talks with the player as they hope to convince Elyounoussi to join their respective clubs.
The 23-year-old has earned himself a reputation as one of the best young attacking players in Europe after impressing for club and country during the last 12 months.
Elyounoussi scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists in 44 appearances for Basel last season, including a goal and a man-of-the match performance during Basel’s shock 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League in March.
Southampton have already signed Stuart Armstrong from Celtic this summer and Mark Hughes will be hoping he can add Elyounoussi to his squad at St Mary’s.
