HITC Sport understands Shrewsbury set to sign former Everton defender Nsiala.

Shrewsbury Town are poised to sign Hartlepool Town defender Aristote Nsiala, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst is a big fan of Nsiala having worked with the centre-back during his time in charge of Grimsby Town.

Nsiala played a key role as Grimsby won promotion back to the Football League via the National League play-offs last season.

The 24-year-old joined Hartlepool in the summer on a free transfer after turning down a new deal at Grimsby.

The DR Congo international has impressed at Hartlepool, making 24 appearances in all competitions for the League Two outfit.

Hurst sees Nsiala as being a key member of his side for the second half of the season as he looks to guide his side away from trouble at the wrong end of the League One table.

Nsiala moved to England from the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2002 and after progressing through Everton’s youth system turned a loan move to Accrington into a permanent switch in the summer of 2012. He has also had spells in Vietnam and at Southport.
